Golf World Cup opening day
This World Cup will be about confidence – if a player starts slowly on Day One on the almost ridiculous 7,800-plus Blackstone Course, don’t expect him to recover.
It will also be a course for the fit golfer with the ability to stay focused; how many hours does it take to play that yardage?
If I have just described a competition for an automaton so be it.
Let’s start slowly so and try to get some early winners before seeing if we can identify the competition winner tomorrow.
Take Sweden (2/9), Spain (2/5), South Africa (1/10), Germany (1/5), Scotland (2/9) and Ireland (1/7) for a handy six-timer that will expand our opening stake.
Tomorrow we study and see who is in form and, while hoping Ireland will garb the trophy, be paying particular attention to Sweden, England and Portugal and how they go.
