Ten now the magic number for Milldean

Such an impact Milldean Panther has had on Irish greyhound racing that while he won’t be a betting proposition for most at Shelbourne Park on Saturday evening, a bumper crowd is still expected at headquarters to see Ireland’s, and possibly the world’s, fastest greyhound in action.

Following last week’s sensational track record breaking run of 28.00sec, the greyhound folk have been nothing but in admiration of John O’Flynn Jnr’s canine over the past seven days and tonight at Shelbourne Park, he’ll be highly expected to make it ten wins from ten careers starts. And by doing this, he can remain unbeaten in what has been a glittering career so far. Following last week’s sensational run, many are expecting Milldean Panther to be first greyhound ever to break the 28.00 seconds barrier at Shelbourne Park and drawn in trap 1 in the Razldazl George Open 525 Final, the 2012 Irish Greyhound Derby ante-post favourite looks to be nicely housed in the red jacket.

There’s no question that he can make all for another stunning success tonight and like last week, Noirs Buachaill is the most likely to follow him home. And while there is no real betting propostion in the race, rumour has it that Paddy Power will be pricing up whether or not ‘Mildean’ can go under the 28 seconds mark. You may be best off dropping into one of their shops to check out what price they’ve put on this piece of history being made.

On the supporting card to ‘Milldean’, the Makeshift At Stud Open Bitch 525 looks at the mercy of Priceless Spark on her most recent form while Paul Hennessy can also strike earlier on the card with the well-regarded youngster Barefoot Henry and Colorful Champ. And in the Shelbourne Open 575 Final, Tyrur Bobby Jo can take the honours for PJ & Conor Fahy.

There is also major action down on Waterford where the semi-finals of the Waterford Masters takes precedence and in the opening semi-final, Razldazl Rioga has to be the dog to beat in what is the much easier of the two heats. I make Dolores Ruth’s Laurels hero the most likely winner of this competition and he can take this semi-final on his way to adding the Masters crown to his portfolio. In the second semi-final, this is likely to be a fascinating betting heat between Sparta Maestro and Dream Captain but Sparta Maestro has been much more consistent of late and can oblige for the locals.
